Blurring the lines between work and leisure

The extent of private communication from the workplace is well captured in some PEW statistics:

more than half of employees who have access to email at work use it for personal messages on a daily basis. When it comes to personal devices such as mobile phones, blackberries 44% say that they use them solely for personal communication andd 25% split the usage between private and professional. Texting is by everyone interviewed, clearly used only for private contacts. 20% of wired workers also report doing IM with friends or family daily from work.  Conversly it must be said that 40 % of Blackberry users check their work email at home  during holidays and sometimes during weekends.
